No Taco Left Behind
A night of fellowship and tacos inspired by Netflix!
My time in Mexico City (CDMX) is swiftly coming to a close and it will soon be time to say goodbye to the land of tacos! As sort of a farewell ode to this iconic food, my fellow remotes and I decided to live out our own Netflix inspired Taco Chronicles. If you’re not familiar with this 6 episode series, check out this article for a little background and then do yourself a favor and binge watch it this weekend!
In the event your weekend is already accounted for, and because I’m a nice person, here are the Cliff’s Notes…
The Taco Chronicles star tacos as the main character in telling the story of the food culture of Mexico City. The series is as much about the history and sense of community around tacos as it is the tastiness of tacos! During Episode 1, El Pastor, which focused on the taco of the episode’s namesake, I found myself incredibly intrigued by the process behind the creation of Mexico City’s most iconic taco — the oh so thinly sliced pork, the time and care that goes into the marinating process, the majesticness of the trompo (i.e., the instrument used to cook the meat), and that slice of pineapple added right at the end by a skilled taquero (those who make tacos)! Additional episodes on carnitas, barbacoa, and tacos de canasta (basket tacos) proved just as entertaining and engaging.
